It's a bird, it's a plane... (post 2 today)

*This is my second post today, so if you want to see the first one for the TAWS challenge, scroll down.*

Yep, it's a plane!   Remember how I said I loved masking, well I love it more and more each time I do it!  Today I used masking to create another scene for the Lawnscaping Challenge #59- Coloring.  I used the jet plane fromt the Bon Voyage set but masked out the jets, windows and top of the plane.  Next, I added in the clouds and kitty from Critters in the Burbs and hand drew the rest of the cockpit and colored everything.  Finally, I added a brad in from the back to make it look like a propelor (which felt like a stroke of genius...though was probably just luck!).  All in all, I am pretty pleased with how it turned out.  Though it is technically makde in the likeness of a war plane, it isn't, Mr. Meow is just taking a joy ride...I am pretty sure he wouldn't hurt a  fly mouse!

For the layout, I took my cues from the Seize The Birthday sketch #18.  As you can see, it has stars for the main shapes.  Obviously, I didn't follow suit but since I had incorporated stars on the plane it seemed only right to add more.  So I used the star (from A Birdie Told Me) to the backdrop as a watermark and on teh circle with the sentiment.  I then went in and added my twine and wood chips.  I wasn't sure if this would turn out when I was working on it, but it did, so to echo Mr. Meow- "Yay!"

This card is also masculine, so I am entering it into the Simon Says Stamp Challenge for this week.

A TAWS-tastic hello

Hello friends!  I am back today with a card for this weeks TAWS Be Inspired Challenge #30.  Check out this delicious inspiration photo...doesn't it make you drool?!  It is perfect for the sunny weather we've been having here in Seattle.  As I mentioned before, I don't yet have any of The Alley Way Stamp Sets yet, but some are being delivered from Simon Says Stamps any day now AND I won a free set the other day with the last challenge so that will put me at two sets- woo-hoo!  (Bet you didn't know I was that good at math... ha!)  In the meantime, I've used another of their freebie digi stamps to make today's card.  BTW- they have a great selection of these freebies, you can check them out here

I'll be honest, it is rare that I am super happy with how my cards turned out, usually I am somewhat happy, but often they don't match up to what I had in mind when I sit down to design it, but I LOVE this card.  I am just thrilled with the colors (I think I hit the nail on the head with the inspriation photo), the design, dimension and all the textural elements.  I think this could go to either gender, the tiki and wood are masculine and yet the hint of pink tips it the other way too.

It is my daughter's last day of school today, so working a half day from home and then off to pick her and her friend up for some fun.  :)  I can't believe she'll soon be in Kindergarten!

Thanks for stopping and  have a fabulous day!

10 Minute Craft Dash

I am not sure if it is because I am having an awesome start to my week or because I am just tired and dopey today, but my ability to concentrate is pretty much non-existent.  I can't seem to do the simplest thing.  I am struggling writing this post...so bear with me... :)  If you want to know why my week has started so well, I will tell you...BUT you have to wait until after today's card.

So with out further ado, today's card is for 10 Minute Craft Dash #19 over at Pretty Pink Posh by Paulina.  That is a whole lotta P's people! :)  I love this challenge because honestly, I struggle to make a card in 10 minutes.  I seriously have to have all my wits about me, a design in mind and my supplies in order.  If you asked me to make one today...well fat chance that would happen!  Anyway, I love this color combo and thought it was perfect for the Home Sweet Home set from Lawn Fawn and these adorable bird houses.  I was also going to submit this for this weeks Lawnscaping Challenge for which the theme is coloring.  I did do some coloring here but not much so not sure it really qualifies.  I can decide later right?!  So here is my card made in 9 minutes and 22 seconds.  Just thinking about that time pressure makes me sweat. :)

My mind is rambling, so I better make this quick, but here is why my week is fabo so far: 1) I was "A Cut Above" at The Paper Players (see post below), 2) I was chosen as a random winner from last weeks Be Inspired Challenge over at TAWS and 3) I was "Pin Perfect" over at Pinspired Challenges from last week's challenge.  All big YAYs for me!

I have been working very hard at my card making and feel that my skills have grown leaps and bounds in the last 6 months to a year and these accomplishments supports that feeling! Now off to try to find a way to simply concentrate and get through the day! :)

Thank you for your visit!

Get out your sunglasses for this post

Happy Sunday!  First can I just remind you about this post here, were I stamped little Lily?  Well over at The Paper Players I was named one of the cut above for this challenge.  That was super exciting, I am so thrilled!  Thank you to Nance for picking my card!!!! :)

Now I want to share with you a card I made for two challenges this week.  The first challenge is over at The Play Date Cafe.  Check out these colors!  They are so rich and regal.  It really is funny how things come around again, because I think these were the colors of my brother's first wedding, in like 1997- turquoise and purple.  I have to tell you though, it was the styles of the dresses and hairdoos, etc. that made that combo *special*.  It sure was awsome at the time though....like totally!  :)  Anyway, you can see in the PDC challenge their color is closer to magenta, I didn't have much of that color, so I used Razzleberry instead.

The second is from the CAS[e] This Sketch blog.  You can see I went for a direct interpretation of the feather, it was just too perfect to pass up.   I struggle with clean and simple (though I suppose my little bathing beauty is considered CAS).  The more I look at a card, the more I want to keep filling the space and filling the space....until I've over done it.  So I think I did pretty well with the CAS aspect of this card.  I am not sure that I like the card though.  I think if you stare at it too long it just might burn your retinas.... What do you think?  I'll take an honest opinion or two.  Maybe it is good for a teenage girl?

I have some other cards to show you later this week that I am much more pleased with so please come back and check them out!

I am gonna get me some girl time!

I don't have anything special to share with you today, just a card I made a week or so ago with my Paper Smooches Hot Concoctions Set (and sentiment from Perpetual Bliss).  I had a ton of fun making this and love all the details.  I paper pieced all the cups (Dear Lizzy DP) added glitter (SU!) to the little sugar cube and some twine (Timeless Twine Marachino Cherry to be exact) to the cute little tea bag!  I even crimped the the brown coffee cozy to make it look real, but you can't see it in this pic.  Anyway, It is just the perfect card to give to a girlfriend don't you think?!

Speaking of girlfriends, I get to have happy hour tonight with three of my girlfriends and I am super excited.  Lovely ladies, chips and margaritas, what more could a girl ask for?! I hope you enjoy your weekend!

This one is for Maddy...(post 2 today)

If you haven't yet seen it, you should check out the Cards for Maddy drive going on over at Simon Says Stamp.  Maddy is a sweet girl with Acute Myeloid Lukemia.  I just read her last post on Caringbridge where she was 20 days into waiting for a transplant (post dated 5/25/13).  I hope that her next update is good and she is getting what she needs (transplant, etc.) and is on the road to recoverly...again.

In the meantime, I have created a card that I wanted to send to Maddy to let her know I am thinking of her and sending positive vibes her way.  If you want to send Maddy a card, check out the info on SSS, the more smilies we can send Maddy the better!  There is even an opportunity to win some shoping at SSS  if you are so inclined.  How amazing of SSS to not only organize the drive but also give a prize away to encourage people to participate!  Although I would love to win me some SSS credit, I just want to send the card with no personal gain.
Here is my card.  I was inspired to make this card from Maddy of course, but also from this weeks Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge.  The shimmery gold from the trend watch photo, the light bulb stamp and hearts from PS Perpetual Bliss seemed the perfect combo to send to this sweet girl.  I topped it off with a couple of wood chip hearts from Freckled Fawn that I died red.  I sure hope she likes it and feels the love!
